How Did Dinosaurs come to be Extinct?

The Alvarez team estimated the asteroid would need to be ten kilometers in diameter to contain adequate iridium to cause the iridium concentrations in the clay layer.

Further evidence to preserve an asteroid impact has emerged. The K-T boundary has two layers. The upper layer is three millimeters thick and includes soot which is believed to have come from global fires caused by the impact.

The lower level is two millimeters thick and contains ejecta from the asteroid impact site. This includes quartz crystals known as shock crystals which have been physically altered by high temperatures and intense pressure. The layer also contains tektites and micro tektites, which are often made of fused glass. Shocked crystals and tektites are both closely related with asteroid impact sites.

In 1990 the scientist Alan Hildebrand, after studying data gathered by geophysicists searching for oil, noticed a ring structure called Chicxulub off the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Chicxulub is a crater 180 kilometers in diameter and dates from colse to 65 million years ago, the same time as the extinction of the dinosaurs. It was estimated that an object ten kilometers in diameter impacting the site would have caused the crater, which fits the Alvarez team's calculations for the size of the asteroid to create the K-T boundary finds.

The Effects Of The Asteroid Impact On The Dinosaurs

It is estimated the speed of the asteroid would have been about 100,000 kilometers per hour and the first impact would have destroyed all things within a 500 kilometer radius. His idea was that "as human beings became capable of anonymous electronic communication, they would concurrently need more close-up personal interaction." Seems to me that he was right on target!

We live in a society when flocking to the local coffee shop or diner for coffee chats with enterprise associates or friends is a testimony to our need for human togetherness, especially when most coffee lovers can make a latte or cappuccino right in their homes. Think about the fortunes coffee establishments are production on our need for face-to-face communication! The people-to-people connections...

We hear of the many children (and adults) who spend countless hours alone playing video games. The dissimilarity in the middle of Being Smart, Educated, and enchanting

I've all the time been intrigued by the subject of intelligence. As a child my mum would refer to me as "smart," but I quickly noticed that all parents refer to their children as smart. In time I would inspect that all children are not smart, just as all babies are not cute. If that were the case, we'd have a world full of beautiful, smart citizen - which we don't.

Some of us are smart; but not as smart as we think, and others are smarter than they seem, which makes me wonder, how do we define smart? What makes one someone smarter than another? When do "street smarts" matter more than "book smarts"? Can you be both smart and stupid? Is being smart more of a direct affect of genetics, or one's environment?

Then there are the issues of education, brain and wisdom.

What does it mean to be extremely educated? What's the inequity between being extremely educated and extremely intelligent? Does being extremely educated automatically make you extremely intelligent? Can one be extremely thoughprovoking without being extremely educated? Do Iqs assuredly mean anything? What makes a someone wise? Why is wisdom typically associated with old age?

My desire to seek answers to these questions inspired many hours of intense explore which included the reading of 6 books, hundreds of explore documents, and countless hours on the Internet; which pales in comparison to the lifetime of studies and explore that pioneers in the fields of brain and instruction like Howard Gardner, Richard Sternberg, Linda S. Gottfredson, Thomas Sowell, Alfie Kohn, and Diane F. Halpern whose work is cited in this article.

My goal was simple: Amass, synthesize, and present data on what it means to be smart, educated and thoughprovoking so that it can be understood and used by anyone for their benefit.

Prenatal Care

With this in mind, there was not a best (or more appropriate) place to start than at the very beginning of our existence: as a fetus in the womb.

There is mounting evidence that the consumption of food that's high in iron both before and during fertilization is needful to construction the prenatal brain. Researchers have found a strong relationship between low iron levels during fertilization and diminished Iq. Studies have shown that the frequent exposure of the human fetus to ultrasound waves is associated with a decrease in newborn body weight, an increase in the frequency of left-handedness, and delayed speech.

Because ultrasound vigor is a high-frequency mechanical vibration, researchers hypothesized that it might affect the migration of neurons in a developing fetus. Nature Versus Nurture...The turn over Continues

Apparently for centuries, scientists and psychologists have gone back and forth on this. Malcolm Gladwell, author of top-selling book Outliers, wrote that "accumulated advantages" are made inherent by arbitrary rules...and such unfair advantages are everywhere. "It is those who are prosperous who are most likely to be given the kinds of social opportunities that lead to additional success," he writes. "It's the rich who get the biggest tax breaks. It's the best students who get the best teaching and most attention."

With that in mind, we turn our attentiveness to instruction and intelligence.

What Does It Mean To Be Well Educated?

Alfie Kohn, author of the book What Does It Mean To Be Well Educated? poses the question, does the phrase well educated refer to a capability of instruction you received, or something about you? Does it denote what you were taught? Or what you remember?

I allege that to be well educated is all in the application; the application and use of information. information has to be used in order to come to be knowledge, and as we all have heard, knowledge is power.

Most citizen are aware of the floundering state of instruction in this country on some level. History And Purpose Of Iq

We've all the time wanted to measure intelligence. Ironically, when you look at some the first methods used to value it in the 1800s, they were not, well, very intelligent. There are also many different forms of intelligence. Most notably those created by Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of instruction at Harvard University.

Dr. Gardner believes (and I agree) that our schools and culture focus most of their attentiveness on linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligence. Fluid & Crystallized Intelligence

According to About.com, Psychologist Raymond Cattell first proposed the concepts of fluid and crystallized brain and additional advanced the theory with John Horn. The Cattell-Horn theory of fluid and crystallized brain suggests that brain is composed of a whole of different abilities that interact and work together to produce extensive private intelligence.

Both types of brain increase throughout childhood and adolescence. Fluid brain peaks in adolescence and begins to decline progressively beginning around age 30 or 40. Crystallized brain continues to grow throughout adulthood.

Successful Intelligence

Then there's Successful Intelligence, which is authored by brain psychologist and Yale professor, Robert J. Sternberg, who believes that the whole thought of relating Iq to life achievement is misguided, because he believes that Iq is a pretty miserable predictor of life achievement.

His prosperous brain theory focuses on 3 types of brain which are combined to contribute to one's extensive success: Analytical Intelligence; thinking steps or components used to solve problems; Creative Intelligence: the use of caress in ways that bring up comprehension (creativity/divergent thinking); and Practical Intelligence: the capability to read and adapt to the contexts of everyday life.

But the goal here is not to ridicule, but to understand how some seemingly extremely intelligent, or extremely educated individuals can be so smart in one way, and incredibly brainless in others.

The woman who is a respected, well paid, dynamic administrative who consistently chooses men who don't appear to be worthy of her, or the man who appears to be a pillar of the community, with a loving wife and happy kids, ends up being arrested on rape charges.

How to Spot Wrong, Dead-Wrong Answers on the Cpc Exam

For more than ten years, instructor Pamela Biffle Cpc, Cpc-I, Chcc, Chco has been making ready folks to pass the Certified expert Coder exam, so we were thrilled when she agreed to share some of her sage guidance with us.

Think Like a Teacher

Joan of Arc - French Patriot and Martyr

St Joan of Arc (c. 1412-1431), also known as the Maid of Orleans, was a French patriot and martyr who challenged the English military ascendancy in France during the Hundred Years' War.

Born into a peasant family in Domremy, France, Joan at the age of 13 or 14 began to hear the voices of St Michael, St Catherine and St Margaret, telling her to rescue France from English domination in the Hundred Years' War that was then raging and to free the French city of Orleans from the English who then besieging it.

She was taken to see the Dauphin (the eldest son of the King of France and the direct heir to the throne) Charles, who was to be the future King Charles VII of France, in the castle of Chinon in the Loire Valley. Charles was initially sceptical and had Joan examined by a group of theologians and clergy in Poitiers, who became convinced of Joan's sincerity and orthodoxy.

Charles then sent Joan with a small force to Orleans, where she joined the French army that was opposing the English forces. Wearing a suit of white armor and flying her own standard, Joan led a number of successful assaults against the English. By May 8, 1429, she forced the English to raise their siege and depart.

Joan now called for Charles the Dauphin to be crowned in Reims Cathedral, a move that she believed would give Charles more authority and would return a sense of national unity to the downtrodden, war weary French people.

Joan accompanied Charles and an army of 12,000 through English-held territory, with the French army clearing the territory of the English to make way for Charles and his party. Charles was then crowned in Reims Cathedral on July 17, 1429 as King Charles VII of France.

In April 1430 Joan and a small group of soldiers went to Compiegne, which was then under siege by the Burgundians, but on May 25 was captured and sold to the English by John of Luxemburg for 10,000 crowns. The English were very pleased to have Joan in their hands as she was becoming an impediment to their military advances in France.

Unfortunately for Joan, after her capture Charles VII made no attempt to negotiate with her captors or to offer a ransom payment.

In January 1431 she was put on trial in an English-constituted court in Rouen. She was originally charged with witchcraft and heresy; however, the trial itself was just for heresy and, moreover, was conducted with various irregularities.

Joan was found guilty and was burnt at the stake in Rouen's Old Market on May 30, 1431.

Twenty five years after her trial and execution, Pope Callistus III set a formal retrial (known as a Trial of Rehabilitation). The result was that Joan's 1431 trial was declared irregular - that is, Joan was exonerated by the Church. (Some commentators have suggested that this development was simply to strength the validity of Charles VII's coronation in the face of any challenges.)

Joan was canonized in 1920. She is now known as Saint Joan of Arc.

St Joan of Arc remains a French national heroine. Certainly, her actions did block the English advance south of the Loire in her time and her military victories and the coronation she promoted gave the French new strength in the Hundred Years' War while demoralizing their English foes.

6.      Do you currently or have you in the past had any judgments against you? This is almost asking if they've been evicted again. Obviously an eviction is a legal proceeding, but it's also a judgment. There's all the time a judgment involved. That's the other way it will show up.

Job Interview Questions - What Are Your Weakest Points?

Remote Desktop Protocol (Rdp) Port Forwarding

One thing that I love about all news windows products is the remote desktop features. I previously used Pcanywhere but I find that remote desktop is now practically as good, would like to see a file transfer like Pcanywhere has, but remote desktop is free so that is a plus for it.

One of the tasks that I face with my network setup is forwarding ports through my router. There are two issues that I came across when dealing with the Rdp forwarding. The first was what is the port estimate of Rdp. With a quick search on Google I found that the thorough Rdp port is 3389.

Now that you have the port estimate you can simply go into your router and send that port through and after enabling your remote desktop highlight it will work from face your network as long as you whether know your Ip address or have a dynamic dns service like I use. To enable remote desktop in Windows Xp and Windows 2003 go to the start menu, find the my computer icon and right click on it. select the properties option in the drop down list and then click on the remote tag in the window that appears. There you will see the two check boxes, check the second box, and then click on the remote user button. Make sure that the users you want to have entrance are in the list and then click ok until you have exitted all of the windows. Rdp is now enabled on your machine.

So this uncomplicated setup would have worked for my network but the issue then became I have several servers that I want entrance to along with my desktop. Now I could just remote to my desktop and then remote to the other machines from there since they are all on the local network. This would generate a lot of data that needed to be transferred though, with petite upstream speeds on your broadband connection you don't want this, and will cause performance issues with Rdp. So I had two options, I could turn the registry entry like was stated in the article. I will paste that fix here just in case that page has an issue at some point:

You can use the Remote Desktop highlight in Windows Xp professional to associate to your computer from another, remote computer. Warning: The Remote assistance highlight in Windows Xp may not work properly if you turn the listening port. To turn the port that Remote Desktop listens on:

Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

Locate the following key in the registry:

Hkey_Local_MachinesystemCurrentControlSetControlTerminalServerWinStationsRdp-TcpPortNumber

On the Edit menu, click Modify, click Decimal, type the new port number, and then click Ok.
Quit Registry Editor.

Note: When you try to associate to this computer by using the Remote Desktop connection, you must type the new port.

The other option I had was to go into my router and specify another external port estimate and then point that port to the 3398 on the Ip address of the engine I wanted to go to. I chose this second option as it was less time moving and did the trick for me. One moving thing about the capability to turn the port estimate of Rdp is security. If you leave the thorough port estimate then anyone will know to check that port to see if you have Remote Desktop enabled and potentially compromise your network. Let me know if there are any issues with the registry fix though and if there are I will just remove it from this article.
